The Language of Everyday Life in Contemporary Saudi Poetry

(A Critical Study of the Collection "What Water Told to Thirst" by Hassan Samili)

Abstract

This study, entitled "The Language of Everyday Life in Contemporary Saudi Poetry: A Critical Study of the Poetry of Hassan Abdo Samili", explores the concept of the language of everyday life and the motives for employing it in modern poetry. It also spots the patterns of employing the language of everyday life in the poetry of Hassan Abdo Samili. To achieve these objectives, the descriptive analytical approach and the inductive approach were used. The study is divided into an introduction, three chapters, a conclusion, and a list of references. The first chapter is entitled: The concept of the language of everyday life and the motives for employing it in modern poetry, the second chapter: Hassan Abdo and the characteristics of his poetry, and the third chapter: The language of everyday life in the poetry of Hassan Abdo. The study reached many findings, the most important of which are: The language of everyday life is the modern colloquial language that people use in their environment, and it is not subject to specific rules. It changes as generations change, and what distinguishes it is being easy, simple and clear. The poet used vocabulary on the nominal and verbal levels, and the nominal level predominated, as the divan was full of names and colloquial words derived from Saudi society.
