Geographic Information System(GIS) Applications in Spatial Analysis of the Internal Transport Network in Nasiriyah City

Abstract

The research dealt with the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) In the spatial analysis of the structure of the road network In the city of Nasiriyah, I dealt with the first chapter to determine the spatial and temporal boundaries of the study area, then the most important natural and geographic factors affecting the road network in the study area, As well as to know the pattern of street planning in the city of Nasiriyah, and the orthogonal grid pattern was the dominant and dominant pattern on the road network planning, and the streets were also classified in the city of Nasiriyah, and in the second chapter, quantitative analysis methods were used, including network theory, by transforming the study area into a group of 29 urban nodes An urban node and the connection between the urban nodes was done in the light of the actually existing streets and on it the topological map was created and it became clear that the structure of the road network in the city of Nasiriyah is of the type of circuits, and the study also found when using the Detour Index that the lowest percentage of inflection was among the urban nodes (Al-Zaytoun and Al-Bashaer - Administration local), where the Detour rate was 110% for the first and 111% for the second, and the highest Detour rate was for the urban node (Al-Fidaa and Al-Hakim), which amounted to 164 While the average Detour Index between the city center and the urban nodes combined was 130%. The Shambel index of accessibility was used according to the lengths of the links, and the central node was the Saray area, which ranked first because it is located in a central location that is easily accessible with the least distance from the links, when applying the ETA index to the urban road network in Nasiriyah, where it reached 1.34 km / link, and this indicates that the lengths of links in the city are short, which gives a clear picture of the extent of convergence between urban nodes and the proximity of distances between them.
