Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence has significantly advanced fashion design by enabling the transformation of hand-drawn sketches into realistic digital outputs. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of generated designs, assess the preservation of the original design concept, and identify the most effective tool among Gemini, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. A comparative descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, utilizing five hand-drawn fashion sketches; each sketch was independently transformed into realistic visualizations using the three selected generative AI tools. The outputs were evaluated by ten experts through a validated questionnaire and a blinded expert evaluation process. The results showed that Gemini achieved the highest performance in output quality, detail accuracy, and preservation of the original design concept, followed by ChatGPT, while Microsoft Copilot ranked last. The Friedman test revealed statistically significant differences among the AI tools and the hand-drawn sketches, indicating that output quality varied according to the AI tool used. The findings provide evidence-based guidance for selecting generative AI tools that accurately translate hand-drawn fashion sketches into realistic digital visualizations.
